What kind of bags can I carry on Northwest/Delta?
Am I allowed to carry like an open paper shopping bag when I enter the plane? Or does it have to be closed and zipped? And will it have to go above where you store the carry on luggage?

If you are going to be serious about playing golf, your golf bag is an important area you should not skimp on. If you ride in a cart most of the time, the importance of a golf bag is diminished, but if you are going to carry your clubs, you want a bag that makes a pleasure.

 There are varieties of golf bags. A tour bag is the giant leather model you probably have seen professionals on TV. It has lots of big pockets to carry a full rain-suit and any other extra goodies. A typical tour bag could weight more than 50 pounds.

 The next size down from a tour bag is a cart bag. Cart bags are not quite as big as tour bags, but they are a little bulky for the average golfer who is going to carry clubs and play at the same time. These bags are usually made of leather and designed to be used on a ride cart.

 If you play and carry the clubs at the same time, you may consider a travel or carry bag. A travel or carry bag is much smaller and lighter than a full size bag. A carry bag can fit all of your clubs and some small accessories. Most carry bags are made from plastic and nylon.  

 Carry bags vary in size, quality, and price. You can buy a tiny, three-quarters-size carry bag for a child, or you can get a deluxe model with plenty of pockets and a special backpack-type strap that goes over both shoulders. You can find golf bags for $60 at discount golf shops, but these at low end.  You get what you pay for. They only have the very basic features and a few pocket and often they aren’t very comfortable to carry. If you’re only going to play once or twice in a year, then this kind of bag is sufficient. If you’re willing to pay more than $100, you can get a high-quality, light carry bag. It is easy to take clubs in and out and will stand on its own when you put it down.

 Of course, the more you’re willing to spend, the more elaborate the bags can get. The backpack strap is a great feature that moves the weight from one shoulder and spreads it out over both. It makes carrying your bag much more comfortable.

 When you’re looking for a bag, keep in mind the features that will be most important to you and make sure the bag has them. If you have lots of little accessories that you like to carry with you on the course, you’ll need a bag with lots of pockets. If you like to carry your street shoes in your bag as you play, you’ll need a bag with at least one relatively large pocket. Again, you can get as many features on a bag as you like, but at some point you start to sacrifice room and size for weight. A carry bag is designed for to just that, a bag that’s easy to carry.
